Inspire Notes:

Messrs Kasper Rønn and Jonas Bjerre-Poulsen of Norm Architects are why we get up in the morning. Their simple pared down aesthetic

allows so much more subtle activity to happen that I believe it takes a certain intelligence to see it. There. Now I sound like an interiors snob. I don’t care.

To appreciate their work, you have to understand the secretive sophistication of simplicity.

Their creation is timeless. It is not trendy. We don’t do trends at THE HOME STYLE DIRECTORY. We expose and comment on them for interested

parties, but we extol classic simple elegance and that is what you get with Norm Architects. We could not do better than to refer you to their own words

below as they explain their very deliberate opening up of what could have been a fairly average space were it not in their hands.

“We tore down a substantial part of the concrete walls and cut all doors open to the ceilings, in order to create an open plan and increase

the feeling of height. To increase the feeling of one space a white resin floor was cast to connect all the rooms. To divide the living areas

from the bathroom a core was constructed, containing cupboards, fridge, etc., to one side and a flat screen to the other.

The core was painted in a mat black color to contrast the white walls, floors and ceilings. Underneath the black core we installed hidden

lighting to give it a hovering feel and a sense of lightness.

In order to get the most of the scenery outside we opened up towards the kitchen and replaced the closed elements in the facade with glass elements.

The now unbroken lines from one end of the apartment to the other ensured a feeling of a larger space.

An important part of the project was to minimize details such as paneling, door knobs, fittings, etc. and create a monastic, simple

atmosphere that was perfect for mental relaxation after a hard and stressful day at the office, and that worked as a neutral backdrop

for the more sculptural furniture.

To ensure a simple interior white cupboards and closets were built in to the walls in full height with hidden fittings to make them look like walls.

Built-in storage goes a long way toward eliminating clutter. All wires were cut in to the walls and the rest of the lighting done with wireless

switches and the heating was put into the floors.”  Norm Architects

The style directory for your home...

To obtain this homestyle you have to get the base point correct. The base point is the your starting position. In this case it is the pristine,

white, sharp, clean lined palette. As the architects have said they took care of business before styling the space.

They heightened the rooms by removing the upper part of the walls above the doors. The white resin floor provides seamless

continuity throughout the building and any unnecessary-ness was removed such as paneling, door knobs and fittings.

Then because the lines were so simple and clean they could add layers and still keep that restful, classy atmosphere.

The inline wardrobe with the recessed lighting is a great idea. If you take another look you will see that the warm indirect lighting

is what stops this place from looking just that little bit too ‘cold’ and just imagine the comforting glow at night time. It is well placed

in surprise places such as under the large black mount for the flush TV screen.

The more exposed lighting such as the trio of  Topan V6 pendant lights are a really smart sophisticated choice for this ‘monastic’

space, partly because they take up a good amount of eye sweep, which in this environment is a good thing. I love the floor as is,

but maybe one might place some slightly more decorative rugs here and there. The LCW and DSR chairs are dope. Period. Moving on.
