Home is of course a strong point at The Home Style Directory and with a film coming out in January and part deux of her successful perfume ‘La Vie Est Belle’ already in the shops, 10 Questions wondered about Ms Julia Roberts’ take on home and home life, versus her superstar career.

1. If you were not actress what would you be?
A school teacher. I have always thought that my other dream job would be a home economics teacher.
2. How old are the children now?
Phinnaeus and Hazel are 8, Henry is 6.
3. 10 Questions remembers a mutual acquaintance telling us about a film he was doing with an actress we misheard as Juliette Roberts. Your fame had not quite crossed the Atlantic … who knew?! How do your children deal with your fame today?
They are starting to get it. Danny and I have talked to them about it and it’s not a big deal. It’s interesting being in this business with three little children, helping them to understand the things that get said about you. We were on a crowded street and people started to notice us and someone said ‘isn’t that Julia Roberts?’ and Finn said ‘Yeah, my mom is Julia Robinson.’ It gives you perspective.
4. Mystic Pizza has become a bit of cult hit I think but you would agree that Pretty Woman was your break out film?
Absolutely. I owe my career to Garry Marshall (director of Pretty Woman) and still to this day I have no idea why he picked me for that role. But I suppose that all the little things and the roles I had before just came together at the right place and the right time.
5. What are your tips as a mother of 3?
I don’t try to be perfect. I have always said that any time everybody is in bed no one is bleeding or crying and they are all safe and breathing, they are all fed and intact that is a triumph. Always with children you wake up and you are so aware of the wonder of the world. Every single day can be inspiring or can wear you out. But that’s a good thing. The thing that you also lack is time. I never seem to have any! But it’s a trade off. I am terrifically fulfilled being a mother to my children and a wife to my husband.
6. Where do you live?
We live in California and have a ranch house in Taos New Mexico.
7. Do you have any animals?
We have dogs Myrtle and Louise, chickens and horses. The chickens produce an egg everyday, one of our chickens we call Veronica produces amazingly huge tennis ball sized eggs.
8. What do you cook your kids for dinner
One of Finn’s favourites is brown rice. Hazel likes spaghetti and pasta. Henry likes meatballs. Some days my kids will help me cook and it becomes creative and super fun and some days all that cooking can be a chore. But I strive to be more like my mother who made everything from scratch. She made fresh food direct from her garden so that’s how I know how to keep everything fresh and healthy. I think I’m quite good in the kitchen but you would have to ask the eaters!
9. What shows do you watch?
I’m a huge fan of Beverley Hills Housewives. I am embarrassed to admit it but I cannot get enough of it.
10. How do you unwind?
Red wine and some hearty fresh food would be on the menu like a big steak or home made ragout. I’m either cooking, cleaning, playing with my kids or just spending time with my husband! I love to be with my family and I know that I am super fortunate and have earned the right to be a stay at home mom. I have a wonderful life and I have found a husband and a best friend. We both love and trust each other. I still love what I do for a living but these days it takes something special to get me to commit to a script. When I first started as an actress I felt like I had to take up every offer, but today I am more grounded and able to be a little more selective about what I give up time with my children and husband for.
